10/15/2008 Japanese Restaurant - Ajikura Restaurant 味藏日本料理Saw some good & bad comments of this restaurant in a Macau chat forum so gave it a try for myself...
The paper on the window next to the main door noted ‘famous for grilled food’… ok, no harm trying!
We sat at the bar overseeing the sushi chef preparing his numerous orders. The raw sashimi in the cold display case looked so-so,
Appetizer:
Akagai Sashimi 赤貝– (Ark Clam) Quite a big portion as you can see from the pic the shell was quite big… tender texture, not too chewy, no fish odour, quite fresh, quite good
A petit bowl of Marinated Thinly Sliced Lotus Roots 蓮藕薄切 - The sauce somehow reminded me of a small Japanese restaurant in Richmond Hill (16th/ Leslie Ave.)… surprisingly good!
While waiting for the rest of our food to arrive, the “no smile, no talk, no facial expression” chef took more than 30min to finish up the medium sized sashimi platter for another table!!
Main:
Mixed Tempura 雜錦天富羅 – Totally disappointed!!
Cold Soba with Tempura 天富羅冷麵 – Don’t know why they used tempura-batter for this one and not the previous dish!
Grilled Mixed Skewers 雜錦爐端燒 – (L – R)
Ginko 銀杏/白果… quite tasty, never expected it so good cuz normally eat this in sweet soup or regular chinese soup… chewy texture.
Chicken Kidney 雞腎… I don’t eat this kinna internal organs but I’m being told it’s just so-so.
Fish Skin 魚皮… not bad taste, chewy texture
Chicken Cartilage 雞軟骨… just so-so, personally preferred those deep fried ones in karaokes!! Hahaha
Chicken Skewer 雞肉串… quite tasty, marinated then grilled
Pork Skewer 豬肉串… quite tasty, marinated before girlled also
Soft Shell Crab Avocado Roll 軟殼蟹卷 - Avocado a bit rusty in colour, probably due to being out in the air too long
Bill came to approx MOP$380-400.
Overall ok, some good dishes some bad dishes.
Not sure what the 2nd floor looked like as we were told it was all full already, but we heard there were 1 or 2 private rooms available.

This time it was a whole day trip ~~ yes!
As usual, met at 11am... i-pod fully loaded with music
After 1hr of driving & chit-chatting, we arrived at our first stop Shangri-la Hotel’s Chinese restaurant. Floored windows brought the daylight into the entire restaurant, making it appear even bigger as it already was! Nicely decorated, spacious & tranquil... the place wasn’t packed with ppl... semi-open kitchen concept with lots of food displays available. From the display stations, we noticed the dishes weren’t big in portion, and our lovely driver informed us the food portions may not be big but they’re all definitely good quality! Here’s what we ordered (I was busy snapping pics so my frds ordered these): (top row L–R, names not too sure) 1. Duck breast served cold – duck breast, my favorite… gelatin coated, very tender texture… yummy yummy yummy 2. Steamed vegetables – very crispy vege stalk… good… yummy yummy 3. Steamed chicken hand-stripped – I think it has a bit of Chinese wine… very juicy texture… served cold also 4. Sweet & sour fish – sprinkled with sesame… served cold… no fishy smell… bones were so small & crunchy u could swallow them just as they were nuts!! 5. Soup of the day – some kind of fungus + chicken… very aromatic… quite good
(2nd row L–R, names not too sure) 1. Fish soup base noodles – freshly made noodles soak in fish soup base… very aromatic of the fish soup (some frds said it was too smelly of fish flavour) but I thought it was acceptable 2. Sichuan beef pot – we ordered just little spicy (this is normally a very spicy dish)… tender meat texture, not chewy… I enjoyed the big bean sprout a lot!! 3. Sweet & sour pork - each piece had a small bone attached... good bite-size for an appetizer
4. Tofu & mushroom casserole – Super smooth tofu… glides into your throat once it’s in your mouth!! 5. Vege & pork fried rice – all vege & pork was finely diced thus making the whole dish looked like a big portion!! Rice was nicely done, not soggy, not too hard… can really say each rice had either vege or pork wrapped around!!! Yummy yummy yummy
(3rd fow L-R, names not too sure)
1. Tofu soup – same fish soup base as previously mentioned… but the most important thing to look for in this soup is the skillfulness of the chef’s usage of knife… just look at the finely cut tofu… it’s not just on the top to show off, it was the whole bowl’s tofu that was cut like that!! Amazing!!! Pay the price just to look at this soup is really worth it!!
2. Shanghai-style pork dumpling - soup inside each dumpling was super hot and flavourful… the dumpling skin was not thick (which is good)… bite-sized dumpling always a good thing!! 3. Fish soup – we couldn’t get enough of this soup that we had to order an extra bowl 4. Desserts – sweet baked dumplings… some had lotus paste, some had red bean paste, and some had nuts inside Bill came to approx RMB¥70-80per pax.

After some last minute snapping
We then went to a street which our lovely driver told us there’s a good deal on handkerchiefs & towels. My goodness, what started out as 1frd buying... ended up all of us buying big & small towels!!!!
We then went to a coffee shop Location: Morton Cafe 摩頓咖啡西餅店(中山) 中山市石岐逢源商業街4號樓
It was getting dark and we finally found our hot pot restaurant (we drove by earlier to make reservations). The ever famous Little Sheep Hot Pot Restaurant (Zhongshan branch). Price was not expensive either... well, compared to the same amount of food we ordered here and in Macau, this was definitely cheaper than in Macau! How happier could we be? A whole bunch of girls + hot pot + tons of food on the table (2 kinds of beef, lamb, fish, chicken, etc.... can’t remember la!) + tons of laughters!! Fortunately we were all "big eaters" thus making it possible for us to do these kinna "eating gathering" fiestas!!!
Location: Little Sheep Hot Pot Restaurant, Zhonshan branch 小肥羊火鍋(中山店)
Just before we came back to Macau, we stopped over at a local supermarket for snacks. Again, what started out as 1 person wanted to buy a box of good quality (china brand) milk ended up all of us buying a box of our own!!
As usual, I bought some other snacks I knew I never saw in Macau:
(Top row: L-R)
1. My souvenirs from this trip
2. Gold Fish china version "Many Fish" 好多魚 – my bf always liked the USA version of Gold Fish, when I saw this box I thought I’d buy it for him to try the difference. (Verdict: he said the original USA version tasted better!)
(2nd row: L-R)
1. Mengniu Deluxe Milk 蒙牛特濃蘇純牛奶– this was what everyone bought at the end, what normally costs MOP$60 was only sold for RMB¥30! Which female could resist NOT to buy with such a good deal?!?! 2. Milk Candy伊利牛奶糖片 – regular milk, strawberry & orange flavours. Texture was like the regular Horlick’s Candy... not too sweet... quite addictive!! 3. Pringles Pesto Italiano – very Italian dressing flavour... quite good... couldn’t stop eating!! 4. Pringles Salt & Pepper - very peppery aroma... not spicy at all but very addictive... couldn't stop eating!! Can’t wait to see where our next gathering trip will take us!! Cheers!! 10/10/2008 Italian Restaurant - La Cucina Italiana 我的意大利廚房Heard a lot about this restaurant, so finally gave it a try... twice in a roll~~
The pics below were taken on my first visit. We made reservations in advance but yet we still had to wait for 20minutes to be seated!!! The place was packed!! The place looked a bit European feel, wooden furnitures and decorations everywhere... there was even a fake fireplace close to our table! I found it a bit noisy probably due to the full-house. I liked how they did their menu, a bit high school "hand-craft" feel yet sophisticated enough to match the environment. The vinegar & olive oil bottles wre cute. Overall, I liked the ambiance.
Here's what the 5 of us ate:
Appetizer
Bread with Olive Oil & Vinegar + Chopped Garlic & Parsley - I've always loved
Sliced Air Dried Beef with Salad 薄切風乾牛肉沙律配鮮檸檬橄欖油- I loved how they used a granite stone to hold the pita-bread... you take a slice of the triangled-bread, put beef & salad on top, drizzle olive oil and roll up the bread to eat... wooo... yummy yummy yummy (pics with 1, 2, 3)
Soup: Assorted Mushroom Soup 雜菌湯- All of us ordered this... very aromatic mushroom flavour
Main
Baked Spaghetti with Shrimp & Mushroom in Cream Sauce 焗白汁磨菇鮮蝦意大利粉(石紙包)- Very aromatic mushroom, very tender & fresh shrimp, a bit watery creamy sauce... overall still ok
Beef Steak with Pizzaiolla Sauce 特色紅醬汁牛扒- Tender beef deep fried with crispy outer layer... tomato sauce cooked with onion, garlic, black pepper and maybe a hint of cheese? (not sure but I do see some white colour in the sauce)... this one ok la
Linguine with Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Garlic & Chili 意大利番茄乾香蒜扁麵 - Looks simple but the garlic and sun-dried tomatoes very flavourful... hint of spiciness from the chili made it even more appealing... linguine was al-dente...
Sliced Roast Pork 烤薄切豬肉 - Tender pork, juicy centre, not dried... steamed mixed vege on side... ok taste
Beef Tenderloin with Mushroom Sauce 牛柳配磨菇汁 - Very aromatic mushroom, beef medium-well, juicy centre... lots of mushroom on side... yummy yummy yummy
Dessert
Tiramisu 意大利芝士餅- Smooth & soft texture, a hint of expresso flavour, a hint of liquor flavour, not too sweet... yummy yummy yummy
Panna Cotta 意式香草奶凍 - Very creamy taste, a hint of vanilla flavour, not too sweet, topped with blueberries... yummy yummy yummy
Chocolate Mousse 朱古力慕士 - Very smooth mousse, chocolate not too sweet, portion just right to finish off a superb dinner!! yummy yummy yummy
Bill approx MOP$900
************************************************
The 2nd time when I ate there I didn’t have to wait long, probably just 5minutes and we ordered almost the same dishes... also a good dinner. Will go there again for sure!
